Set Induction (Funny Classroom Start)

Teacher: “Children, if your mummy leaves the house for two days and you are the one in charge, what would happen?”
Emeka: “My daddy will eat biscuits for dinner!”
Titi: “The house will be upside-down!”
Teacher: “Exactly! That’s why we must learn how to care for the home—this is what Home Economics teaches us!”


Entry Behaviour

Pupils already help at home by sweeping, washing dishes, or helping mum in the kitchen.


Instructional Materials

  • Flashcards with images (cooking, sewing, cleaning, etc.)

  • Picture chart of a tidy home and a dirty home

  • Real items: sponge, broom, spoon, napkin

  • Short storybook on cleanliness or home chores

  • Poems or rhymes about home care

Ask pupils:

Main Content

What is Home Economics?

Home Economics is the subject that teaches us how to take care of our home, ourselves, and our family. It shows us how to cook, clean, and behave properly.


Aspects of Home Economics:

  1. Cooking – Learning how to prepare food.

  2. Cleaning – Keeping the home neat and tidy.

  3. Sewing – Mending clothes and sewing buttons.

  4. Personal Hygiene – Bathing, brushing teeth, washing clothes.

  5. Interior Decoration – Arranging our house nicely.


Classroom Story:

One day, Chinedu’s mummy was tired, and he decided to help. He swept the floor, helped his little sister brush her hair, and even arranged the chairs properly. His mummy was so happy and called him “Little Home Economist!”

    A: It is the subject that teaches us to take care of the home.

    A: To make it neat and healthy to live in.
