Set Induction (Attention-Grabbing Story)

The teacher tells a short story:

“Yesterday morning, I watched my little cousin, Seyi, trying to sweep the compound. He swept slowly at first because he was tired, but when he heard the ice-cream seller coming, he suddenly swept quickly and carefully pushed all the dirt aside. When his mum came out, she asked, ‘Who cleaned here so neatly?’ Seyi raised his hand proudly.”

Then the teacher asks:
“Which words describe how, when, or where Seyi swept?”
Learners respond.
Teacher connects the words to today’s topic: Adverbs.

They have also learned adjectives.
Today’s lesson builds on their understanding of how words describe actions.
