Introduction

Welcome to your Week 11 revision! This lesson helps pupils recall all the English Studies topics learned during the term — including phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, structure, and punctuation.

It’s a fun, supportive, and confidence-boosting review to help pupils get ready for their exams with joy and ease.

Teachers can use these revision sections as a classroom quiz, group activity, or exam practice.


✨ Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Recall and explain key terms learned during the term.
  2. Identify correct phonics sounds and vocabulary meanings.
  3. Answer questions from reading passages confidently.
  4. Differentiate between types of sentences and punctuation marks.
  5. Engage in revision discussions with enthusiasm and clarity.

Set Induction (Engagement Story)

Teacher tells a short story:

“Last week, Tolu opened her English notebook and smiled. She said, ‘Wow! I can read, spell, and even use full stops!’ Her friend Musa nodded and said, ‘Let’s see how much we remember from all our lessons!’ Today, just like Tolu and Musa, we’ll look back and see how much we’ve grown this term!”


Entry Behaviour

Pupils have learned several English Studies topics in previous weeks such as phonics, reading comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, and punctuation marks.


Building Background / Connection to Prior Knowledge

Ask:

  • “Who remembers what phonics helps us do?”
  • “Can you tell me a sentence that needs a question mark?”
  • “Who can spell a word that starts with ‘S’?”

This helps recall and reinforce memory before beginning the review.

  2. What does a verb do? → It shows an action.

  4. What mark ends a question? → A question mark.
  5. What mark ends a statement? → A full stop.
  6. What word shows feeling? → An exclamation word!
  7. What is an adjective? → A word that describes a noun.
  8. What are antonyms? → Words with opposite meanings.
  9. What are synonyms? → Words with similar meanings.
  10. What is a sentence? → A group of words that makes sense.
  11. Example of a verb? → Jump, run, eat.
  12. Example of a small object? → Pen, cup, spoon.
  13. Example of a big object? → House, car, table.
  14. What is a homophone? → Words that sound alike but mean different things.
  15. What is reading comprehension? → Answering questions from a passage.
  16. What is a pronoun? → A word used instead of a noun (he, she, it).
  17. What is punctuation? → Marks that guide our writing.
  18. Example of a question word? → What, Who, Where.
  19. What do we use a capital letter for? → To start a sentence or name.
  20. What should you do before exams? → Revise all topics carefully.
